Add an Attachment

To add an attachment to the document you are currently working on, choose File > Attach > Add from the Menu Bar. The Satellite Window will open to the Attachment Manager screen.

  • Insert the number of files you want to attach into the field provided.
  • Click the Apply Button.
  • sWord will move to the next screen. For each file you want to attach to the document, you will need to:

    Attachment

You will need to provide the file you want to attach. There are two ways of going about this:

Load a file from your computer

To attach a file which you have on your computer, press the Browse button. You will then be able to use your computer's browse window to locate the file to upload.

Please make sure your attachments to not have obscene or offensive names when you upload them, as this information will be visible to other users. You may need to rename files before uploading them.

Choose a file from the Library

To attach a file contained in a site library, click the Load from library link. You will then be able to use the Library Manager to locate the file to attach.

    Title

Type in the title you would like to give to the attachment. The title must be at least once character long, and may not be omitted.

If you chose the file from the Library Manager, this field will be automatically filled in with the files name in the Library manager. You may change this if you'd like.

Note: once you have finished adding the attachment, and as long as the document is in editing, you may always go back and change the title via the Attachment Manager.

List the attachment in the page footer option

Check the List the attachment in the page footer checkbox if you'd like the attachment to be listed at the bottom of the page.

For each attachment in the page footer, sWord will list the following information:

    • The title as you provided it. This will be clickable and linked to the attachment.
    • The original file name, as it was named on your computer before uploading it. Please make sure your attachments to not have obscene or offensive names when you upload them, as this information will be visible to other users. You may need to rename files before uploading them.
    • The file size.
    • The description as provided by you.

Look at the example at the bottom of this page to see how the attachment is viewed in a standard site setup. This may vary depending on the style of the site.

Note: once you have finished adding the attachment, and as long as the document is in editing, you may always go back and change this option via the Attachment Manager.

    Description (optional)

Type in a short description of the attachment. This information will be viewed with attachments listed in the page footer.

Note: once you have finished adding the attachment, and as long as the document is in editing, you may always go back and change the description via the Attachment Manager.

  • Repeat these steps for every attachment you are adding, then click the Continue button when you have finished.

Only click the Continue button once, then wait for sWord to park the Satellite Window and refresh your main browser window.

If at any point you decide not to add any attachments to the document, simply press the close button. sWord will park the Satellite Window, the files will not be attached, and no changes will take place in your main browser screen.

Note: once you have finished adding the attachment, and as long as the document is in editing, you may always go back and remove it via the Attachment Manager.
